Theft
Theft is “Dishonestly appropriating property belonging to another with the intention to permanently deprive the other of it.”
This means you have decided to take something that does not belong to you and intend to keep it.
Dishonesty
Is when you make the decision to steal or what you do in order to steal e.g. hiding items under your coat.Property
Property includes money and all other property, real or personal. Max Prison Sentence = 7 yearsBurglary
Entering a building or part of a building as a trespasser (being somewhere your not allowed) and stealing or intending to steal, cause damage or G.B.H. Max Prison Sentence = 14 years
Robbery
Is stealing but using or threatening violence against someone in order to steal. This includes Mugging, Street Robbery and Armed Robbery. Max Prison Sentence = LIFE
Cowards
Street Robbers / Muggers are cowards. They pick on vulnerable people who are usually younger than them or very old. They are often in gangs and have knives or weapons with them. They run away if they think they might get caught.Handling
If you accept or buy things that you know or believe are stolen, then that is called Handling Stolen Goods. To stop people wanting to receive stolen property the Max Prison Sentence is the same as burglary which is 14 years in prison.
Taking Vehicles
- Taking a car, moped or other motor vehicle without the owner’s permission and driving it on the road or public place is sometimes called joy riding. There is no joy for the victim! Max Prison Sentence = 6 months.
- If you drive dangerously, crash, damage anything, injure someone or they die, then the offence is aggravated. Max Prison Sentence = 2 years +5 years driving ban.
- Death - Max Prison Sentence = 14 years.
Grassing
It’s not wrong, it’s making someone responsible for something they have done. You would not be happy if someone took your stuff so leave other peoples property alone and tell on those who steal, burgle, rob or any other crime.
