Day 21: Gary goes undercover!
It is a dark night and very difficult to see but who is this in the moonlight? I think his ears and his little yellow scarf will give you a clue. Yes its Gary and tonight he's working on a special top secret job. He cannot tell you about it yet as he's gathering information at the moment but he will be involved in the operation soon and then you will see him at work.
Most Police work is a result of following up some good information and taking appropriate action. Gary is following up some information now with a view to running the operation later.
What do you think it could be? Well here are some things that the Roads Policing Officers do under cover in plain unmarked cars.
- They watch for disqualified drivers.
- They watch for dangerous drivers.
- They watch for persistent drink drivers.
- They help find overloaded vehicles.
- They help find stolen vehicles.
- They help to catch criminals who would easily see the marked police cars.
- They help the immigration service to find people who shouldn't be living and working here.
- They work with Customs and Excise to catch people smuggling goods or evading duty on diesel.
- They work with Trading Standards to find people who are selling poor quality counterfeit goods (often to fund criminal or terrorist activity).
- They do a lot more things you don't know about as well.
Do you know what is shown on Warwickshire's county badge? It's another little bear. That's why Gary has been helping us this month, for in all of these ways Gary and the Warwickshire Roads Policing Unit are helping to make Warwickshire the safest place to be.
Gary says "We work through the night so that you can sleep soundly"
Well done Gary - we are all proud of you - keep it up!
