Day 3: Gary with intoximeter - Don't Drink and Drive
More than 500 road deaths every year are directly linked to drink driving. Some of these are the drivers themselves but others are their passengers or other road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Drink Drivers are a very real menace on our roads.
It is standard procedure for all drivers involved in road collisions to be breath tested to ensure they have not been driving after drinking too much alcohol. Even if the collision was not your fault you will still be breath tested.
If the roadside sample is a positive test then the driver would be arrested and would be taken to a police station where they would take more tests on an intoximeter. Gary is demonstrating the machine here.
If you fail or refuse to take the breath test you are likely to get an automatic driving ban of 12 months or even longer depending on the circumstances.
If someone dies as a result of your carelessness while driving under the influence of alcohol you could go to prison for up to 14 years. That's a very long time to regret a moment's foolishness.
Gary says - drinking and driving wrecks lives so please think before you drink and think again before you drive!
