Day 5: Gary runs a speed check in Leamington
Working a 12 hour day shift is tiring work and Gary has soon realised the importance of eating properly at the start of the day to make sure he has the energy to do his Police work. He is only a small bear so he cannot manage a full bowl of porridge just yet but here he is with a hot bowl of his favourite oat cereal.
After breakfast Gary has been out today at the request of the Leamington Police, Safer Neighbourhood team. Local residents in Lillington and Cubbington are concerned at the number of speeding cars coming through their housing estates and have asked the Police to help out. The team have stopped and warned many drivers today about their speed.
Gary says that around 80% of the parishes in Warwickshire believe they have a speeding problem and while the main focus of the Roads Policing Unit will be at sites where there have been a lot of serious injury accidents, there is still much demand for reassurance speed checks where mercifully to date there have been no injury collisions.
It is particularly important to keep speed low around schools where young children may not recognise the dangers on the road.
Gary begs drivers "Kill your speed - not a child"
