Travelling on Public Transport

Bus header 1 - Strip of a photograph of a london bus

  • When using the bus service, try to stay away from isolated bus stops, especially after dark. Try to wait at a bus stop that is well lit and on a busy public road.
  • On an empty bus, sit near the driver.
  • On a train, sit in a compartment where there are other people.
  • When you are on any public transport, check to see where the nearest emergency chain is located.
  • If you are a wheelchair user then keep your bag by the side of you and don't keep all your valuables in one location, ie keys in one pocket, money in another and phone in yet another. Don't be tempted to hang your bag from the back of your chair as someone may come up behind you and steal the bag.
