Travelling by bike

- Don't leave your bicycle in isolated places.
- Always lock your cycle even if you are leaving it unattended for a short period of time.
- Lock your bicycle through the frame and both wheels. Ideally use a D-Lock as these are more difficult to cut through than chain and lock the bike to a fixed structure.
- Remove small parts that cannot be readily secured, ie lights and seat.
- If you are out on your bike do not stop if you are flagged down - keep on going until to you get to the next public area and call the police, who will then go out to assist.
- Security mark your bike using a UV pen or Smartwater. Keep a record of your bike - make, model, colour, distinguishing markes and ideally a photograph. This will help the police identify the bike if it is stolen and then recovered at a later stage.
