Keeping your motorbike or scooter safe

Be Aware

Motorbikes are popular targets for thieves because they can be sold easily or broken up for parts, which are hard to trace.

Mark It

Get the bike, engine and windscreen etched with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN,) or your postcode.

Log It

Ask the police or your cycle dealer for a recorded cycle form, which will put a full description of your bike on a database.

Lock It

Always lock up your motorbike when you leave it, and chain it to something immovable, if possible. Put the steering lock on and use a strong steel cable or D-lock.

Park It

Take the same precautions when parking as you would with a car.

Stop It

Get a combined alarm / immobiliser professionally fitted. DIY is cheaper, but unless you're a pro, it's unreliable.
