Rider Safety Check List
Clothing
- When riding your bicycle your clothing needs to be comfortable, sensible and highly visible/
- Safety is of the utmost importance whenever you go out to ride on your bicycle.
- You must always wear your bicycle helmet, this is not a negotiable item of equipment when cycling.
- Do remember that loose clothing can get caught in wheels, gears and chains which will result in loss of control of the bike which may lead to an accident.
Comfortable and Sensible
This means that clothing should be fairly loose bit not excessively, remember that loose flapping trouser bottoms or skirts/dresses are guaranteed to become entangled in wheels, chains or gears at the most awkward of times.
Highly Visible and Sensible
- Clothing which is a light colour, which does not tend to blend into the background.
- Reflective or fluorescent sashes or bibs are particularly effective in poor lighting conditions.
- Materials which are reflective often appear dull grey in normal light but are worth their weight in gold in night time conditions, especially if they are used as leg bands as their movement attracts attention.
All of the equipment this equipment is there for your safety and protection. Your bicycle helmet has to be worn at all time whilst cycling, your reflective belt works well in all forms of visibility. Be aware that other road users need to be aware of your presence on the road.
