Domestic Violence is NEVER acceptable
What is Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse - physical, emotional, psychological, financial or sexual - between adults who are or ever have been intimate partners, or are family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.
It can happen in any family and in all kinds of homes, across all sections of the community regardless of age, gender, race or sexual orientation.
It can happen only once, or repeatedly over many years.
What is the Law and What can the Police Do?
- Domestic violence is a crime, it is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
- The police will take positive action.
- Priority will be given to the victim and any children involved.
- Police can arrest an offender if a criminal offence such as assault has taken place.
- If no offence has taken place, police may still remove the offender as a precaution.
- Police can offer support and advice and refer you to partner agencies.
