Trial Bike in the air Recent years have seen an explosion in the numbers of off road motorcycles and quad bikes being sold in the UK. Many new owners are completely unaware of the law surrounding the use of these bikes in particular where they may be ridden lawfully and safely. All motorcycles, scooters and quad bikes with a petrol engines are mechanically propelled vehicles and are governed by the following legislation, even if they only travel at low speed or are only large enough for children to ride them.

The only place where off road vehicles can be lawfully ridden is on private land with the express permission of the landowner whether on payment or otherwise.
