Surf Safely

People online are not always who they make themselves out to be. Follow our advice below to surf safely.

Don't

  • tell anyone your last name, phone number (mobile or home phone), where you live or go to school, or your email address
  • trust anyone you do not know personally, everyone online should be counted as a stranger unless they are someone you know well from school, friends or family
  • meet up with someone you have met online, unless you are with a parent or adult you trust. If you do go an meet someone you met through the internet with your parent or trusted adult, meet them in a public place
  • open an attachment or private message if you receive one, unless you know or trust the person sending it. If in doubt as a parent or trusted adult

Do

  • use a nickname when online - be creative!
  • always keep your passwords secret
  • tell your parents or an adult you trust if you are unhappy with anything that you come across while surfing the net - if they are not there then switch the computer off
